How the internet works
In order for your computer to view this page it had to connect to a computer somewhere in the world where this web pages information was stored.
How did your computer find out which computer had that information stored on it? Well first there are some basic "rules" which a computer must follow called protocols. Your computer puts in a request to you ISP or Internet Service Provider hitting domain name servers (DNS) along the way to find the target server. Once the target server or "computer with the web page information you want to view." is found piece by piece ( the pieces are called packets ) the information is sent back to you. Once the packets get to you your device arranges the packets according to the protocols putting them together like a puzzle. The end result is you being able to view the information you wanted, typically a web page. Here is a video that may help you understand some basics.
