Spotlight on the Media Center

James Clemens High School has a new media specialist in town, and the library will never be the same. Nikki Robertson has the library exploding with opportunities and innovations.

Firstly, if you haven't checked out Maker Space, you gotta! Maker Spaces, sometimes also referred to as hackerspaces, hackspaces, and fablabs are creative, DIY spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. Our students are building code, flying drones, creating crafts and making connections with each other. More exciting things are coming soon...

Secondly, the library now offers story time for our DD students. They get to read a story and create a craft. What a wonderful way to connect!

Also, Nikki provides teachers with one-on-one professional development including Google Apps and Google Classroom. You can book your entire class to come in the library to work on Google Classroom.

The library is also offering a new book club- Not Your Average Book Club, open to students during Refuel. In addition, the library has decided to 'regenrify' their library to create more of a bookstore feel. That's right! They are ditching Dewey! Books will now be categorized by genre and in order by author's last name.

Refuel Club Showcase

#jchsfaculty #mcslearn #proudtobeajet Club Showcase

Today marked JCHS's first Refuel Club Showcase. Fifty-one clubs and teams were represented throughout the building. Students were excited about the offerings. Club rotations begin Monday. See the Refuel Schedule for details. Don't forget to send Mrs. Miller or Mrs. Flanagan a copy of your interest (sign-up) sheets. You can still send Macie or Heather your club announcement slide. Refuel club slides will play during Refuel time. Mr. Smith reported,  "We had our highest lunch count of the year the past two days: 722 an 738 respectively, which are in line with the % from last year. Hopefully we can grow. The students are understanding they the lines are not swamped, and they do have times and spaces to eat." Continue to encourage students to participate in clubs, visit Maker Spaces and utilize computers in the media center, form study groups and make-up work during Refuel.
