thomas edison was born on febuary 11 , 1847 in milan, ohio. he was an american inventor . he was thaught reading, and writing by his mother, but was always a very curios child , and thaught him self much by reading on his own. his believe in self improvment remained through out his life. later he died in october 18, 1931. Thomas Edison said many years later, "My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me, and I felt I had some one to live for, some one I must not disappoint." At an early age, he showed a fascination for mechanical things and for chemical experiments. .

Thomas Edison's first successful light bulb was in December 1879. Edison and his co-workers set the task to of creating longer-lasting bulb's. In 1879 Edison created a higher resistance lamp in a very high vacuum which would burn for hundreds of hours. Thomas Edison came up with the idea by reading a lot of books and his mother gave him an idea. His other inventions are phonograph and a film projector .
