Julia Child originally tried to enlist in the Navy WAVES, but due to her height she was not able to enlist.
Eventually she enlisted in what is known as the OSS, Office of Strategic Services, the precursor to the CIA.

Child started off as a Clerk typist due to her eagerness to serve, simply helping do paperwork alongside with hundreds of other women. Julia hated the job, but it was a start. Soon, she worked herself up to the position of a senior clerk.
Traveling with the OSS
As Julia expected, she was soon able to travel to different countries. She originally predicted she would be traveling to Europe, but she found herself in the Far East.
Child signed up with a dozen other women, and they soon found themselves far from a home office in Washington.
Julia Child was a television star, only due to her progression throughout the war. She is known for bring French Cuisine into the American home.
The war liberated Julia, beforehand, she did not know what she was going to do with her life. She was not thinking of her life in the form of careers, nothing was truly available.
