The making of the steamboat

by: jadzia forte

John Fitch and James Rumsey made the first attempts to build a steamboat in 1790's. Everyone of their designs didn't seem to fit. in 1805 Oliver Evans attached a steam engine to the boat, mounted it on wheels, and drove it through the streets of philadelphia to the schuykill river, proving publically that steam could be used to propel even large objects. the boat was named Robert Fulton's North River(also known as the Clermont) but even after the design was finish it took another 2 years before it was taken on its first ride.
