Are our lives determined by fate, or by the acts of our free will?

Emma Nash

My thoughts: Fate determines our lives. "Our fate is written in the stars,"- Shakespeare. Shakespeare is simply stating that we have no control over what happens in our lives. Though we try sometimes to change our destiny, our fate is set in stone. Therefore saying that the decisions we make, whether they are the right or wrong decisions, everything happened for a reason. Usually the circumstances are out of ones' hands and there's nothing they can do to change the outcome.

Researched Answer: "There are many of those who believe in Fate.  This group includes many religious people.  If you believe in a God then you likely believe that that God is responsible for the creation of the universe and all of the happenings within it.  Everything that happens in every person’s life is God’s will.  Also in this category are the non-religious people who don’t necessarily believe in a God, but do believe in an ordered universe, karma, and destiny."

"The ancient Greeks acknowledged the role of Fate as a reality outside the individual that shaped and determined human life. In modern times, the concept of fate has developed the misty halo of romantic destiny."
