Campus History and Origin
In 1841, 35 delegates to the Union Baptist Association meeting accepted the suggestion of Reverend William Milton Tryon and District Judge R.E.B. Baylor to establish a Baptist university in Texas.
After the University was chartered on February 1, 1845, four communities made bids to be the location: Travis, Huntsville, Shannon's Prairie and Independence. Independence was selected, and classes for preparatory students began in May 1846 with college courses offered the following June. In 1886, Baylor and Waco University consolidated to form Baylor University at Waco.
These are exciting times in the life of the University - a period in which our institution is striving to remain both a relevant institution of higher learning for the coming years and to continue to fulfill our original mission laid down by our founders: to be a Christian University "fully susceptible of enlargement and development to meet the needs of all ages to come." In a world where faith is often the casualty of a serious pursuit of academic achievement, Baylor is a special place.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching classifies Baylor as a research university with "high research activity." Baylor has an international reputation for educational excellence built upon the faculty's commitment to teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary research that produces outstanding graduates.
Baylor University is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution. Our rank of alumni include missionaries and pastors, heads of Fortune 500 companies, governors of Texas and professional athletes. Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas through the efforts of Baptist pioneers, Baylor is the oldest continually operating university in the state.

Cover Letter for Psychologist Position
Mr. Joe Smith
Mental Health Hospital
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am interested for a Psychologist position at your Mental Health Hospital. As a graduate of 2027 from Baylor University, I have many qualities that I think will benefit your Hospital. I have experience working part time jobs as a Psychologist, but I am looking for a full time position.
As of the second year of my college education I began working as a Assistant Psychologist for United Christian Private School. This job opportunity helped me have the chance to make a difference on young children’s lives.
In addition to the period I worked at United Christian Private school I volunteered for the rest of my college time at the school because just being around the children and being able to provide as much of my efforts as I possibly could helped me in so many waysHaving the chance to do this of course benefits the children, but in many aspects it also enables me to have a greater aspect on who I am as a Psychologist and how I can be better.
I would greatly like to be able to continue to be a part in a process where I can help others develop and myself develop as well, and I believe a position at your hospital will provide me with a great opportunity to do so. I would welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Skills & Abilities
Ever since I was a little girl I always asked questions most people did not quite know the answer to. I always found it interesting about the way people think. When I am in the car driving home from school I think of the events that happened that day, then from there my mind goes through a series of events and leads me to a thought, what brought me to this?
I often play this “game”,as you will, where I start from my current thought and think of what brought me to that point, and from then on I just backtrack. Whether it takes me 30 seconds more or less, it does not matter to me, figuring out this process to me is a very pleasurable, yet fascinating type of thing I look forward to. Once I realized that I became quite good at this “game”, although it was my very own, I realized that I wanted to invest myself into a career path where I can put my skills to work where they would benefit me the most. I wanted nothing more than to help other people find out those unanswered questions I once had.The one path that stood out to me the most profoundly, was Psychology.
Ever since my brother came back from touring the campus of Baylor University I knew that is where I wanted to go and find out who I could be, and I cannot imagine anything better then being able to develop myself into becoming a Psychologist anywhere but Baylor University with the disciplined curriculum that they provide. I am not one to quit so I hope that you understand that if you do wish in accepting me, I’m not going anywhere. I am not a quitter and I never plan on becoming one either. Anything that is thrown my way I will not try and sideswipe, I will just take it and turn it into something that will take me farther. Psychology is my dream, my everything. I want to be that person who I was never to experience as a child. I want to be the one who is able to answer those questions left in deserted places in one’s mind. This is why I believe I deserve a spot at Baylor University to study Psychology.
