What are Fragmented States?

   A fragmented state is a state that is separated by a physical or human barrier. It is a state that includes several discontinuous pieces of territory.

What are they separated by?

These states are separated by either water or by other countries.

    The Philippines is an example of states separated by water as shown below.

Advantages of fragmented states

-It is harder to attack fragmented states

-Greater likelihood of resources

-More territory

-Promotes migration

Disadvantages of fragmented states

-Communication will suffer

-Maintaining peace becomes difficult

-Not a very strong government
