For this comunidades, listened to the podcast, "Notes from Spain". In this podcast, Ben and Marina discus the on-going events in the "Spanish Revolution". They discuss the people of Spain are demanding change and a real democracy. I learned that Spain is having a tough time with employment and the people are rioting and camping out in the cities main square. Something I can take away from this podcast is that I should be more thankful that I live in a nation where the peoples opinion and thoughts are considered and have a strong voice in society and government.
For my fifth comunidades, I watched the movie "Sin Instrucciones". This movie was about a bachelor (Valentino) who's former girlfriend shows up to his house unannounced and hands him his child, a daughter named Maggie, and leaves unexpectedly. Valentino must raise the child by himself. He then moves from Mexico to Los Angeles for his job as a stuntman and also to find the mother of his child. The movie is primarily about Valentino raising his daughter with his main objective is to find her mother. When he does find her, she wants to take Maggie back, but now that he has raised her himself he does not want to let her go.
What I have learned
From watching this movie I have learned that you can be angry or upset with a family member but in the end you still love them no matter what.
How I can i apply this
after watching this movie, I can apply this to my everyday life by not taking advantage of my family members and when I am mad at them i should always forgive them.
I watched the movie, Mambo kings, this movie was about Musician brothers Cesar and Nestor leave Cuba for America in the 1950s, hoping to hit the charts of the Latin music scene. Cesar is the older brother, the business manager, and the ladies man. Nestor is the young songwriter, who cannot forget the woman in Cuba who broke his heart.
What I have learned
From watching this movie and some outside knowledge from last six weeks, I have learned that moving from one country to another is easier said than done. There are a lot of struggles that come along with it, like leaving does not mean that your problems go away for instance, the mobsters still find the brothers even though they have moved to a different country
how can I apply this
Because this movie is an exuberant film bursting with color, energy and irresistible music that chronicles the ups and downs of two brothers and their quest for the American Dream, I can apply this to my life because even though I am not a musician, I also have a love for music.
From this year, I have learned a lot about the Spanish language and Mexican culture not only from watching podcasts and movies about them but also in class. I have learned about the struggles of being an illegal immigrant even thought they are breaking the law, they aren't making enough in their country and don't have enough money to pay for documentation and green cards. So in a way it has helped me to understand why they do the things they do. I have also learned much about the culture, how strongly they value family.
