Apple: Get a Mac

"Get a Mac" was a campaign launched by Apple in 2006 to get people to see the benefits of a Mac over a PC. The objective was to make the boring parts of computers(security, viruses, error message, etc) better known to the general public, while also attempting to get people to switch from a PC and purchase a Mac.

Started a Revolution

Once aired, the mindset of a computer purchase was changed completely.

When going to buy a computer, people remembered the ad, all of sudden people began to ask questions about the processor, the hardware, and even the operating system. People began to start caring more about laptops then ever before

Everybody's Talking About Mac

After the release of the first wave of Mac vs. PC videos, Apple was on the forefront of everybody's minds. Musicians, comedians, and talk show hosts all started talking about the new debate: Are you a Mac or a PC?

TV shows like South Park created parody videos of the Mac vs PC commercial, and these parodies increased the conversation, by making the debate something funny that everyone could relate to.

Redefining Comparison Ads

Future companies used the same format as the Mac vs. PC ads to convey why they had better products then their competitors.

Apple changed the game of advertisements by creating a format to knock down their competitors, and look like a shining star.

This reminds me when the pater towel companies compare their towels to other brands showing how their brand can clean up better than others.

If I worked for Apple now, I would also try to use publicity to make the debate (Mac vs. PC) more well known and applying to every computer owner. In addition, I would try to get some Apple spokespeople to become involved in those public arguments. They could tell unique information about Apple's advantages over PC, and portray an image of a serious company.

I've seen so many Mac commercials that I've never been considered buying a PC.

I remember seeing the commercials where PC would say they are better then Mac but they never really changed my view point because I'm still very much an apple product person.

If I were to bring this commercial back, I would put the Mac against the tablet from Samsung so that people can compare the two biggest competitors.
