2011 Tsunami / Earthquake (Japan)
On March 11, 2011 a mega thrust tsunami hit Japan that lasted approximately six minutes (relative to the eastern part of Japan). The tsunami was caused by an earthquake on a fault near Japan. The areas affected not only included Japan, but also Tokyo and Sendai. The tsunami caused buildings to fall down and catch on fire. It also caused landslides, and the wave it created was at most 40 meters tall. The total cost of the damage caused was between $14.5 to $34.6 billion. Even after two years, the aftershocks have continued to be released as of October 26, 2013.
