Sigmund Freud was a major psychologist. He was very outgoing and he liked to think. He always had a cigar in his mouth, which later caused cancer. One of my favorite discoveries of his would have to be Freud's Iceberg of Personality.
Freud's Iceberg of Personality comes from the school of psychoanalysis. This ground breaker came from the Victorian Era, where women were very modest and traditional. Sigmund Freud had many new ideas and breakthroughs. One was known as his Iceberg of Personality.
This idea of a iceberg comes in three parts; ID, Superego, and Ego. The ID resembles the devil on your shoulder. The ID is very aggressive. This is the bottom of the iceberg, submerged underwater. It is part of the subconscious mind. The superego would represent the angel on your shoulder. Superego often follows society's rules and understands right and wrong. This also makes up the subconscious mind. The ego is above water, theoretically, in the conscious mind. The ego is often the decision maker. It would be represented by you in between the devil and angel.
Psychoanalysis studies how unconscious motives and conflicts determine human behavior, feelings, and thoughts. Sigmund Freud played a major role in the success of this school of thought.
