Why do play?
I play the euphonium because of its beautiful tone and the variety of styles it can play, from classical to jazz.
I learned to play the piano rudimentarily when I was five years old. I learned the play the recorder in third grade, but I really didn't start my musical education until sixth grade, when I joined my school band. I chose the euphonium and have never left it. I took lessons outside of class all through middle school and also served as my Boy Scout troop's bugler for six months. When I was in eighth grade, I played in the Association of Music in International Schools's Middle School Honor Band, about the equivalent of Regional Band here. I began marching band under Mrs. Townsend during my freshman year in high school.
I expect the middle schoolers under my tutelage to increase their understanding of rhythms and be able to count them correctly, as well as improving tone quality and being able to play articulations correctly. When these are learned, they will make any piece better. I will also work with them on pieces that they're playing for class in order to improve their overall sound.
