Social Studies Vocabulary Words
Messiah- the promised deliverer of the Jewish nation prophesied in the Hebrew Bible.
Christianity- the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices.
Bethlehem- 1A small town 5 miles (8 km) south of Jerusalem, in the West Bank; population 43,100 (est. 2009). It was the native city of King David and is the reputed birthplace of Jesus.
Disciples- a personal follower of Jesus during his life, esp. one of the twelve Apostles.
Resurrection- the action or fact of resurrecting or being resurrected.
Bible- the Christian scriptures, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.
Saint- a person acknowledged as holy or virtuous and typically regarded as being in heaven after death.
Apostles- each of the twelve chief disciples of Jesus Christ.
Crucifixion- the execution of a person by nailing or binding them to a cross.
Gospels- the teaching or revelation of Christ.
