Central Argentina has hot summers with tornadoes and thunderstorms and cool winters. Western Argentina produces some of the world's largest hail.  The southern regions have warm summers and cold winters with heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous zones. Higher elevations at all latitudes experience cooler conditions. Some of Argentinas geography is that it is bordered by the Andes in the west and the South Atlantic Ocean to the east.

Friend's Day

Argentina has a holiday called Friend’s Day, a day dedicated entirely to friendships. In the early 1970s, an Argentinian scholar founded Dia del Amigo(Friend's Day) after he felt connected to everyone on Earth when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Friend’s Day is an official holiday in Buenos Aires, although it is not a national public holiday. Friends gathered, parties are held, and everyone gets together late at night to celebrate friendship on July 20th of every year. On Friend’s Day in 2005, a record number of people were celebrating their friendships. There were so many people calling their friends that cellular networks went down in multiple cities and so many were in the festive mood that hotels and restaurants had no space to hold them all.

Declares Independence

In 1816-1817 Argentina declares independence from Spain. Some causes for their break away were when  the Spanish monarchy resumed its functions in 1819, Spain was determined to recover control over its colonies in the Americas. However, the royalists from Peru had been victorious in several battles in Upper Peru, and seriously threatened the United Provinces from the north.

Current  Events

Argentina's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has said that the country should consider moving its capital from Buenos Aires to Santiago del Estero, a city 600 miles to the north west. Cristina says "We should start rethinking where to place our federal capital, perhaps more in the centre of the country – and even here, in Santiago del Estero, the Mother of Argentine cities,"
