For the week of June 5, 2015
“It’s not about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday.”
Mathematics: Mary Kemper
STAAR Data – Looking at Reporting Categories: We will only have raw score data (total number correct and number correct per reporting category) for STAAR Mathematics for Grades 3 – 8 until the fall when TEA releases our performance standards and the pass rates are set. At that time, we will know whether each child met standard or not. The Met/Satisfactory column in Aware will reflect 0% or No for all learners until the fall when the performance standards are set. This information was also sent to educators and administrators via Mail Chimp from Mary’s blog post on Friday: http://cisdmath.blogspot.com/2015/05/staar-data-looking-at-reporting.html
Think Through Math Grades 3 - 8: TTM will be available for use through the summer. I have spoken to our rep and was assured that all accounts will continue through the summer. The Campus Administrator role in the TTM system, designated this fall, includes the elementary content specialists and middle school department chairs. Educators with learners planning to utilize TTM through the summer should set up/verify their learning pathways are appropriate and ready to use all summer. More information for parents is available here: http://texassuccess.org/support/parent–corner.
High School Math Textbooks: At the May 18 meeting, our Board approved the purchase of instructional materials for Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalculus, and AP Statistics. The current (old) books for these courses should be gathered, boxed, and sent to Tina Benz, per her instructions. I am working with the publishers of the new materials to get them to your campuses in time for the start of school in 2015-2016.
Algebra II for learners enrolled in middle school in 2015-2016: We will continue to serve these learners as we have for the last several years. That is, learners will be enrolled in Algebra II Honors at CHS for 7th period. Parents will be responsible for transportation. Questions about this should come to Mary Kemper or Deana Harrell.

Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Our CHS and NTH@C CTE educators have invested a considerable amount of time this spring to preparing their courses for Year 2 of the House Bill 5 endorsement Pathways. Thank you to the Campus Administrators and educators for all of their hard work!

Advanced Academics: Deana Harrell
Please remember Community-Based Accountability surveys must be completed by the end of the day on June 4th. I will work to compile that information next weekend and have it ready for campus principals to sign off on for the June PEIMS submission on June 8th. Any corrections can be submitted to me until noon on June 11th.
GT 6 Hour Updates and initial 30 Hour Trainings
The GTi Specialists and I have created several 6 hour modules available for the GT 6 hour update, however, the release of those modules is on hold until they are migrated into Schoology. Educators wishing to complete their 6-hour updates need to check their email over the summer. We will notify everyone when enrollment is opened.
As a reminder, any new classroom educator at the elementary level needs to complete their GT 30 hours by the end of the 1st semester. Any educator in the core areas in middle school and those teaching Pre-AP (or the equivalent), AP, IB and GT courses at the high school level need to complete the 30 hour GT training. Enrollment for that course will also be available this summer and again in the fall as soon as it is migrated to Schoology.
Elementary GTi Meetings are scheduled for the following dates/locations:
June 2nd – 8:30-3:30 at Pinkerton Elementary
End of year counselor meetings have been scheduled:
Elementary Counselors - June 11th 1:00-4:00 Brock TR1
Middle School Counselors – June 15th 8:30-11:30 Brock TR1

Counselor Professional Learning Time
Principals – For the first time in many years, CISD has the opportunity to have our counselors ALL participate in a professional learning concerning Ethics in their changing roles. Please plan for all of your counselors to participate in this training at Coppell High School on September 24, 2015.

Enrichment Programs: Regina Owens
Enrichment is the act of improving or making better. Please do accept my sincerest appreciation for allowing me to support and serve you and support your educators and learners. You have truly enriched my life. I look forward to an excellent new year. If I can be of service throughout the summer or the upcoming year, it would be my pleasure. Again, thank you and have a wonderful, restful summer.
Professional Learning: Laurie O'Neill
For the 2015-16 school year, CISD Professional Learning Expectations will change (slightly) specifically for Non-Exempt employees on a 187-day and 197-day work schedule include, (but are not limited to), instructional paraprofessional employees as follows:
The supervisor pre-approves and monitors 8 hours of professional learning, recorded in Eduphoria, which must occur outside the contract day, and must be completed during the professional learning calendar year. Separately, 16 hours of comp time must be recorded via clock in/out procedures between July 1 and the 3rd Friday in November for those whose employment agreement includes the exchange hours equal to two workdays. Taking personal days is not an option for 16 hours of comp time.
