Life in Colonial Times

What was life like for a British Colonist?

By: Alyssa Stanfield

Life for a British colonist was harder than you'd think. "The earlier you arrived in the New World, the harder life was. During the 1600's colonists pretty much started with what they brought over on the boat and had to make the rest by hand". Although by the 1700's, the colonies were growing and basically turning into " a new England". I think that it was harder, because when you think of everything we have today, most people have heaters, beds, and furniture for every room. In that early time though, they had "a long board on two tresses" for a table and children had to stand. There was also one fireplace filling the whole room with smoke, and one window with only a cloth over it. So, yeah, life in colonial times seems especially hard.
