Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
By: Samuel Moore
This story is about a little boy named Max. Max has a fight with his Mom with his fox suit on and he gets grounded and got sent to his room without any supper. His Mother yells up "Wild Thing!" and Max says back "I'll eat you up!". So his room starting to grow a forest around him he was all of the sudden on the mysterious island. He got onto a private boat and went to a mysterious island. And on this mysterious island and meets these wild creatures. They treat him like their king far a long time. Max decides it is time to go home so he leaves and on wild creature yells out "Don't go, I'll eat you up, I love you so!" he goes home but only to realize that he was dreaming and a hot bowl of soup on his desk.
I think of a few implication that come out of this story, here are 2:
I get imagination from this story because he is believing that he is a "wild thing" because when his mom yell up "Wild Thing!" he yelled back up "I'll eat you up!". Also that night a forest grew in his room and the text says "and grew until his ceiling hung with vines and the walls became the world all around". This shows he is using his imagination to have a forest growing in his own room.
Max had very good imagination in this story. Most of us when we were little and young we would you know, have our little games we would play and pretend we were a soldier and play army in the woods or in our yard and for the girls you had the tea parties and dress up. But now since we are older we can't really do that in society with being considered weird. Like if I were to say I can't wait to go home so i go into the woods and get a stick and use it as a fake gun and pretend to be a soldier to other people they would think i am weird.
What other games did you play as a kid?
Don't run away from your parents or home:
I get this because Max runs away and stays with the wild things for a while, but eventually he got home sick and most of all he missed his mom. I say that because the story says "And Max the king of all wild things was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all". Also i think that the wild things loved him just as much as his mother did, and when Max left the wild things said "Oh please don't go, well eat you up, we love you so!". I think this is what his mom would have said to Max if he left but not including well "eat you up."
Would you get home sick if you ran away from home or your parents?
