Mrs. Vande Hei's Newsletter
With American symbols being our focus this week, the students learned about the American flag, Pledge of Allegiance, Statue of Liberty, White House, and the bald eagle. The students also learned about the significance of each of these important symbols to our country. An underlying theme: Freedom. Ask your child about what they remember when they look at their American Symbols book!
Show Your Smiles
This week, we also focused on staying healthy by keeping our teeth clean. On Wednesday, a dental hygenist spoke to the kindergarten students about the proper ways to brush their teeth, how many times they should see the dentist in a year, and what foods and drinks are healthy for them. I think many were suprised to learn that chocolate milk was not something that was good for them!
Numbers Make Sense
This week, we spent a lot of our time in math working with number partners. What 2 numbers can partner up and make 5? What numbers can partner up and make 10? We also worked with the vocabulary words 'greater than' and 'less than'. We even had some fun playing a Smartboard game using the greater than and less than symbols. We have spent A LOT of time learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We are almost near mastery of this concept. Keep up the great work!
Monday, March 2, is Dr. Seuss' birthday. We will spend the week reading many of his books and talking about rhyme. We will also have a special guest reader on Friday to go along with our Book Brunch. (The kids have already met my mom and sister this week, why not meet one more member of my family?)
*Please send in any food items for our cooking units. The list was sent home last week.
*We are also low on snacks. We only have some regular crackers. Anything you can help out with is appreciated.
*We are also out of napkins. (Yes, we go through a lot.) If you can help out, we would appreciate it.
