Ho Chi Minh

Ho Chi Minh turned communist once he realized that he was being defeated. He struggled therefore he turned to his communist friends for help. Minh created the Indochinese Communist Party which led to attacks on France. This led to the war between France and Vietnam

France gets defeated, Vietnam rises

The fighting begins between Vietnamense Nationalist and Communist teamed up to fight the French army. The Vietnamense were very strong during this battle and had the tactic of a "hit and run". After the defeat of France, many began to worry so they formed the 17th parallel.

17 North Latitude

The 17th latitude was created to divide North and South Vietnam. As Ho Chi Minh was the leader of North Vietnam, while Ngo Dihn Diem was the leader of the anti-Communist South Vietnam.  

U.S. gets involved in War

In 1965, Johnson sent many U.S. soldiers to North Vietnam. They attacked by bats and by land but they still were the underdogs. They were unfamiliar with the geography which caused Nixon to pull the soldiers out  slowly. This was called Vietnamization and the soldiers were all out of North Vietname in 1973.  

Vietnam invades Cambodia

North Vietnam wanted to change Cambodia into a Communist country. North Vietnam took over Khmer Rouge, in 1993 UN peacekeeping helped Cambodia adopt a democratic constitution.
