Haiku

     A haiku poem is a three- line Japanese verse form. There is a total of seventeen syllables in a haiku. There are five syllables in the first and third lines and seven syllables in the second line. Haikus are usually based on nature and are traditionally written in present tense. This poem form emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.
