Ned Kelly - Hero or Villain?
Ned Kelly was a hero and a villain. He helped his family, helped his drowning friend, but then he committed murder, kept robbing banks and getting drunk. All he ever wanted to do was look after his family, even if that meant robbing the bank.
Ned Kelly is a hero in a way. He's a hero because all he ever wanted to do was support his family. They were poor and needed money and equipment to get them on the same track as everyone else. It wasn't easy thought, when his family members were getting caught and put in jail. Besides, he was taught by a former bush ranger to survive in the bush and apparently he wasn't a good guy. He obviously didn't know he was an apprentice of a criminal until he received a letter from the Government stating that he was an apprentice of a criminal. Even if he did know, he was doing it for the safety for his family. Also when he was at the age of nine, he saved a drowning boy from the river. Now try to tell me that that's not a good act.
Ned Kelly is a villain because he's a murderer that goes around hijacking horses and tries to shoot as many cops as possible. He also kept robbing banks and getting caught many times for crimes that he did like murdering police. For example, there was a shootout at Stringy Bark Creek and 3 police died that day. The people involved in the shootout were: The Kelly Gang. He also killed his own friend thinking he was a government spy. He had a reckless life, robbing and murdering and no matter how many times he was sent to jail, he never learnt his lesson. Every time he escaped, he kept doing something wrong. Even if he meant to do good, he did it in the worst way possible.
So in conclusion, Ned Kelly was both a criminal and a hero. He was a criminal because he committed murder and for robbing banks. He was a hero because he was a good boy in school, saved a drowning boy and always looked after his family.
Ned Kelly, A Hero
If I were to take a side, I would take the side where Ned Kelly is the hero and NOT
a murderer because everything he did right or wrong was for his family. If it wasn't for him, his family would be in jail or not living a happier life then what they did. Everything he did was for his family and this is the 1st reason to why he is a hero and not a villain.
The 2nd reason is that he saved a boy that was drowning in a river. If it wasn't for Ned, an INNOCENT boy would've drowned that day. Now he has his whole life ahead of him. Later on, Ned received a scarf in honour of his bravery. I bet your asking yourselves: Then why did he kill the three officers? Well those officers weren't innocent. The government and the police were always trying to track the Kelly gang down. So if a member from the government or a police man was drowning, Ned wouldn't save him/her. Police men chasing Ned and the gang full-time would've worn Ned out and Ned HATED that.
So in conclusion, Ned Kelly is a Hero because all he wanted to do was look after
his family. He saved a drowning boy, and he always looked after his gang. He
was always a well behaved boy during school and always meant to do good.
In conclusion, the true story of Ned Kelly will never be known. But if I were to take a side, I would choose Hero. If you think about it, all he wanted to do was to be good and to look after his family.
On the 27th of June 1880 the Kelly gang went to the Glenrowan Inn. The Kelly gang had a plan to commit a theft so that the police could come and so that the Kellys can deal with the police. Everything was going well. They new because they saw the police coming via the train. When the police showed up, Ned went and got some extra weapons while the rest of the Kelly gang tried to cover him by firing at the police from inside the Glenrowan Inn. Then, when Ned came back, he tried to hold off the police outside the Inn. While Ned was off his guard, one of the policemen snuck up behind him and shot him (He didn't die. Just severe gunshot wounds). The rest of the Kelly gang tried to shoot back, but the police had a plan of their own. The police set the building on fire. The gang then went down in flames. Ned was later treated for his gunshot wounds and was then hung.
Superintendent Hare's Perspective
31st June 1880
We've finally caught Ned Kelly. We found him outside the Glenrowan Inn, in full armor trying to get away. He had committed a theft there. We had a shootout. "You've heard the plan. NOW MOVE OUT!!!." Ned Shot my hand and I was transported back to treat my it. I really don't like the Kelly gang so after Ned escaped I ordered my men to burn down the Inn and the Gang burnt to death. The Kellys plan was ruined! Next week will be his execution and I will get £8, 000. The death of Ned Kelly will happen at 8.00 am Wednesday.
Ned Kelly's Perspective
7th July 1880
Last week the government decided my fate along with my two friends and my brothers. My execution will happen in one hour. My gang was burnt alive in the Glenrowan Inn, I saw them fry in the open flames, and now I'm going to be hung by the neck, for trying to look after my family and friends, and the rights of others. Everyone has voted that I shouldn't be hung but that wasn't enough for the government. After everything I've been through, losing my brothers, I don't want to die, although I'm going to anyway. As my last request, I beg the government to release my mum, Ellen Kelly from prison.
