The Beach Boys
The surfers of the music world
The Beach Boys were formed in 1961 by the brothers Brian, Dennis, Carl Wilson, the cousin Mike Love, and their beloved friend Al Jardine. The band was actually managed by the Wilson's father. They created 28 studio albums and 4 live albums. Many of the members wrote their own songs so it is unclear how many songs they actually made. Many songs were probably not sung by the members. The Boys' top hits include: That's Why God Made the Radio, California Girls, and Sloop John B. The Beach Boys have often been called America's Band and were called America's first top band. They were also introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The group has had 36 United States Top 40 hits (The most by an American rock band). They also had 56 Hot 100 hits including four number one singles. Rolling Stone magazine listed the Beach Boys at number 12 on their 2004 list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". After the death of their lead guitarist Carl Wilson the boys decided to make their last album, That's Why God Made the Radio. Due to the fact that this was their last song it was their top hit. The beach boys first song was surfing'. the band also made an album with
Chuck Berry an it was called 15 big ones. in the winter of 1983 the
band member Dennis drowned. the town that the beach boys were formed
was the town called Hawthorn. Their was an error on one of their albums
that was called all summer long and the song that was printed wrong was
actually called don't back down but it was printed as don't break down. This next section will contain information on the two leads of this amazing band. The leads were Mike Love and Al Jardine.
The first lead with the idea of starting the band was Al Jardine. He was born September 3, 1942 in Lima, OH. His family later moved to Hawthorne, California where Al went to El Camino College. There he met Brian Wilson. Al saw Brian's musical talent and he got the idea of starting a band. The Boys formed at Brian's home. Jardine tried to push the boys toward folk music however he was overruled in favor of rock-and-roll. The boys recorded their first song Surfin' in 1961. Al overall had a big part in the band.
Mike Love was born on March 14th 1941 in Los Angeles California. When the band started he immediately took control. Mike was the primary lyricist in the band. He contributed to every one of the band's top hits including Good Vibrations. Mike Love was a big part of the band and if he had not joined th eband may not be what it is today. They became very famous and set many records. Mike along with the other members was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He and Jardine continue to write record and perform today.
