About Belfort Instrument Company
Founded in 1876 to develop meteorological instruments in conjunction with the fledgling U.S. Weather Bureau, the Belfort Instrument Company had established itself as the first meteorological instrument laboratory and observatory in the country by 1896. The company’s products have been at the forefront of scientific advances throughout the twentieth century, for instance being used by the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk and by early mapmakers of the moon. As indicated by the latter example, the Belfort Instrument Company has expanded its focus beyond meteorology to environmental measurement, while remaining committed to providing the best meteorological products on the market.
Most recently the Belfort Instrument Company has taken the lead in the push to facilitate automated weather observations that can provide accurate up-the-minute data about meteorological conditions around the world. In order to do this, the company has developed DigiWx systems AWOSAV, a patented weather system that uses wireless transmission capabilities to deliver real-time, mission-critical weather information from wherever the product is installed. The company’s DigiWx systems AWOSAV is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and is utilized at airports throughout the country.
