Eugene Lee

Set Designer for Wicked


Eugene Lee was born in March 9, 1939 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He went to Beloit Memorial High school. Every year the school would take them to see a play in Chicago, which is where he first became interested in set designing. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA). He attended the Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University and Yale Drama School, where he also got 3 PhDs.


Eugene has designed many sets for some very famous plays such as Wicked, Sweeny Todd, The Pirate Queen, Alice in Wonderland and Candide. He has designed sets for Chicago, Broadway, New York, Royal Nation Theatre in London and many more places. He has won the Tony Award 3 times, the Drama Desk Award 3 times and the Outer Critics Circle Award, as well being nominated for many awards.
