Scientific Literacy Information based on the work of Cris Tovani

Asking questions isolates confusion!  Students must converse with text to interact with it.  Model for students what you do to re-engage with text when you read something for the first time and don’t get it.

Reading levels for students change based on the type of text (technical versus literature).  Reading levels are shaped by background knowledge (determines which text to use), intent and motivation (creating curiosity or preparing for an external audience will increase motivation), and purpose (determines importance to help sift and sort information).
