Great apps to help your students learn and progress!

Fairy Books

What is it?

Fairy Books is an android app that allows its users to create story books, with their own text and pictures. The pictures added can be either uploaded from their personal photo gallery or downloaded from the web. The creators can record their own voices reading their story, so that any future listener will hear it how the writer wanted it to be heard. The app also offers the opportunity to lock the story, so that there are no accidental or purposeful changes made to the story by anyone other than the author.

How can we use it in class?

Students can be asked to create their own story detailing either their favourite childhood story or memory, but spiced-up and altered a bit. The students can get creative with what they would like to write and show, with their voices recorded. The stories could then be shared through a common forum or in class, so that everyone can see what their peers have created. This app would be a great way to work on the students writing and story-telling skills. Since their voices are recorded, it would probably be a bit easier to present for those extra shy students. Grade level would probably be upper elementary school up all throughout junior high and high school for a language class.

Since this app contains the most common English words, students will be able to recognize words faster and will then, hopefully, learn to read quicker, as well.
