If You Give A Mouse A Cookie:

Written By:Laura Numeroff
Illustrated By: Felicia Bond

Summary Of The Story:

This is a story about a boy and a mouse. The mouse wants a cookie and when the boy gives him a cookie it leads to a long list of other things the mouse will want to have. When he gave the mouse the cookie, the mouse kept asking for more things as of milk, a straw, napkin, nail scissors, broom, and etc. The story ends with suspense. The author does not say what the mouse will ask for next. It leaves you to wonder and predict what you think will happen. When he gets another glass of milk will he ask for a cookie or something else to go with it?

Hidden Implications:

The hidden implications that I found were that you can't always be generous because sometimes people will take advantage of it and will keep asking for more. For instance, in the story "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" when the boy gave the mouse a cookie he asked for a glass of milk, when he gave him a glass of milk he asked for a straw (He kept asking for more). The mouse in the story was very greedy.Greed is the tendency to selfish craving, grasping and hoarding .There are a lot of greedy people in the world today that take advantage of other people (the generous person). I think the mouse thought that since the boy was nice enough to give a cookie that he would be nice enough to give him a lot more and when he saw that the boy wasn't saying no he continuously continued to ask for more. I think people are greedy because they feel like they can take advantage of other people to get what they want. I also feel that there is a such thing as limits and freedom. The boy was certainly letting the mouse be free by helping him and giving him what he wanted. But, at the same time he did not set clear limits of when he was going to stop letting the house be free and giving him what he wanted.

I can relate to people taking advantage of you. When I was little that was all that people did to me. At first I was okay with it but then I decided that there are better ways to treat people.

I agree with the implication where people take advantage of your generosity. People do this all the time and don't know when to stop. Sometimes people take so much but never give back.

I have had this happen to me in my life. People would take advantage of people just because they are kind and generous. I agree with all of your implications and you related well to both the story and what you thought about it

I like your impications because you can be generouse but then some poeple will take advantage of that and you have to know when to say no to someone.

I agree with your implication, you can't always be generous because they will take advantage of you very quickly if you give them what they want. This relates to my life a lot.

I feel like you're implications are very good. If you are too generous, people will take advantage of you. I know a boy who went to a camp, and there was a Chinese resturant next to the dorms we were staying in. The boy was trying to be nice and help pay for food, but the other people took advantage of him and he ended up paying for everybody's stuff. That is like what happened to the boy in the story and the mouse in the story. Jackson Nethercutt

I fully agree, if you never say no to someone, they will continuously ask more and more of you, until you have nothing more to give.
