I think that the safest speed for driving 10 car lengths from the nearest car is 45mph. This is because it gives you extra time to hit the brakes if you have a slow reaction time and if the roads are in bad conditions. From 45 to 0 on a dry road it takes 138.6 feet of road to safely stop.
