Obliterate

verb. to do away with completely, to wipe out or erase.
root: littera, letter

Atomic bombs obliterate human lives and whole landscapes with their massive force, explosion, and terrible effects.

Circumscribe

root: scribere, to write

In The Best of Me, small town Oriental circumscribes the main characters' lives, sheltering them and greatly limiting their experiences.

Pseudonym

noun. a fictitious name
root: onoma, name

J.K. Rowling used the pseudonym Robert Galbraith to see how a new novel would sell without the name and fame of "Rowling."

Nomenclature

noun. a system of naming, especially in the arts and sciences
root: nomen, name

After years in the theater, the nomenclature comes easily to me, but around others, I am careful to avoid speaking in "theatre language" since most get lost in the uni-que words and phrases.
