Before Becoming A Yankee
Description Paragraph

Derek Jeter was born on June 26, 1974, in Pequannock N.J. When Derek was four years old, he moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Derek grew up in a family that taught him to be a good person.  For example, when Derek was a child, his parents made him sign a contract every year that set rules for acceptable and unacceptable behavior. In addition, his mom, Dorothy, taught her son to have a positive attitude. When Derek and his grandparents went to New York Yankees games, a Yankee player named Dave Winfield inspired him to have a baseball career. When Derek was in high school with a perfect baseball record, he was drafted by the Yankees as a first round pick in 1992. He spent a few years in the minor leagues improving his skills before becoming the starting shortstop for the Yankees in 1996.  He always wanted to be a Yankee and he would be one for 20 seasons.

Derek Jeter: An Inspiration
Cause and Effect Paragraph

Derek Jeter is one of the greatest baseball players. Derek was the 1996 Rookie of the Year, a five time Gold Glove winner, and a fourteen time All-Star. Because he was such a great player, he inspired young boys to be the best baseball players they can be and hopefully get all the way to the majors like Derek himself.  Due to his great career, Derek really gave baseball a good reputation. Before Derek started playing baseball, some people did not like the sport.  People thought the players were greedy and did not like them going on strike. When Derek Jeter came around, he opened a big path for baseball. He cared about baseball and gave it a new life. Derek made people believe the good things in baseball and not the bad things. Off the field, Derek started the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996, to teach young kids to do good in school, be leaders, and stay away from drugs.  As a result, Derek has helped young people get a good start on life like he did.  Derek Jeter really is a inspiration to everyone today.

Last Year with the Yankees
Chronological Paragraph

Derek Jeter started playing for the Yankees in 1996.  He spent 20 seasons playing as a Yankee shortstop.  Derek said on the off season of 2013 that the 2013-2014 season will be his last with the Yankees. The fans in New York were sad to hear that "The Captain" was leaving. During that season, Derek had his first major injury which was a separated shoulder.  After rehab, he returned as good as ever. During his final homestand at Yankee Stadium, there was a big ceremony for Derek which delayed one of the games. On his final game at Yankee Stadium, Derek came up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning and the crowd was on their feet chanting, "Derek Jeter!"  The score was tied 5-5 between the Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. Then Derek hit a single for a walk- off win in his final game at Yankee Stadium. His parents were there to see a big walk off win for their son. All the fans were cheering to say thank you for all his work. Everyone will miss "The Captain" of the New York Yankees.

Tipping his cap for the fans of New York for all the work he has done for 20 seasons.
