The End of the Quarter

It's hard to believe that the first quarter of school is already over. The last two months have been filled with lots of learning, fun, and excitement in second grade. With the end of the quarter comes many things. Next Friday, grade cards will be sent home with your student, parent teacher conferences will be held at the end of the month, and next week we'll get the opportunity to celebrate some of our successes throughout the quarter. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's performance throughout the first quarter and to see what the rest of the year has in store!

Number Words

This week in math, we began learning about "number words." Number words are the written words that correlate to a number. For example, "eighteen." We practiced spelling these words correctly and correlating number words with written numbers. We also have been practicing identifying how many tens and ones a number has. For example, 32 has 3 tens and 2 ones. These are important skills that can easily be practiced at home. Correctly spelled number words and an understanding of place value are skills that will be built upon throughout the upcoming months in second grade.

Fall Festival

Our Line Creek Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 24th at 2:00pm. A short parade will begin at 1:40 on the blacktop path, weather permitting. Simple costumes may be worn or brought to school on this day. Student costumes must be age-appropriate, contain NO blood, gore, weapons, or weapon-like accessories. NO masks may be worn to school, worn during the school day, or worn during the fall party. Costumes cannot interfere with students' ability to participate in regular school day activities. We ask that adults attending the fall festival who wish to dress up follow the student costumes guidelines too.
