Died: December 31, 1972 in San Juan, Puerto Rico  at age 38 (Died in plane accident delivering relief goods to Nicaragua for charity work)

Career: Clemente played with the Brooklyn Dodgers' minor league team before making his major league debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955-1972.

Family: Vera Zabala, married in 1963/ 3 sons

Achievements: played in World Series/ first Hispanic player to reach 3,000 hits, including 240 home runs/ 1973 Hall of Fame/ National League MVP honors in 1966/earned 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards for his excellence in right field

Community: fluent charity work, family donated to sports complex after his death
