First Women's college in NC

On February 18, 1891, the N.C. General Assembly passed “An Act to Establish a Normal and Industrial School for White Girls,” creating the first public institution in the state to offer higher education to women. Called originally the state normal and industrial school, it became North Carolina College for women in 1919, women’s college of the university of north Carolina in 1931 and the university of NC at Greensboro in 1963
