    - Ray escaped prison in 1967
    - When he fled, he set off a manhunt that would last more than two months and cover five countries
  • Atlanta, Georgia
    - Memphis Tennessee
    - Chester, Pennsylvania
  • The bullet entered through his right cheek smashing his jaw and then traveled down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder.
  • His assassination led to an outpouring of anger among black Americans, as well as a period of national mourning that helped speed the way for an equal housing bill that would be the last significant legislative achievement of the civil rights era.
  • The assassins name was James Earl Grey
  • Died in prison at the age of 70
