Homeroom: Begin with Pronouns review

Introduce Vocabulary with routine

Homeroom: Introduce Poetry, studying features, review Theme

Use the poem "The Climb" to talk about the lesson learned and how the author uses repetition. Students "present" this poem with emotion.

Social Studies Block

Homeroom: Week 16 Run Through

Students read Week 16 and use text evidence to answer Exit slip questions.

Tuesday

Whole Group Block

Homeroom: Connotation and Denotation

Use Flocabulary video: Students watch video, then "teach" to each other and then "teach" to me. Continue with looking at specific examples from video.

Homeroom: Because of gifted, save Hatchet for tomorrow. Meet with Orange and Blue 1

Students use text evidence to answer questions from exit slip.

Wednesday

Whole Group Block

Homeroom: Quotation Marks.

Students correct sentences dealing with quotation marks on their own, and we review as a class, adding rules that we learned from the corrections.

Homeroom: meet with Blue 1 Group, focusing on theme and connotation in leveled readers.

Homeroom: Week 17 Run through

Students use text evidence to answer exit slip questions.

Thursday

Whole Group Block

Homeroom: Connotation work.

Students are given the word "sing" and write what it means. Then students are asked to write the connotation of the word: what they think and feel when they hear the word. Read "I,Too" by Langston Hughes, ask students to visualize what they see, then draw a picture. Read poem several times while I read.

Social Studies Block

Homeroom: Week 18 run through

Stewart: Students look at political cartoon of Week 18 and fill out graphic organizer of "words, pictures, questions, and answers." Give time for students to write observations about words and pictures, then time for questions. Partner, then whole group: attempt some of the questions to fill out answers.

Friday

Whole Group Block

Homeroom: Review using pages 191, 193-194, 196, 197, and 199.

First, build writing using 199 together. Then use Kahoot which offers questions that include the above pages.
