Akshaya Patra Foundation Finding Peace for Others

A progressive nation like ours, having touched new heights in notable domains such as science & technology, unfortunately is still far from developed when it comes to basic provisions like food, education and medical care for one and all. Even today, a very low percentage of the population enjoys a sustainable living while the major chunk of the society is struggling day in and day out for a mere loaf of bread. Witnessing such a drastic situation, several questions pop up; ‘when we can conquer space, can we not conquer hunger?’ The world’s hunger especially that of the third world countries, is getting unreasonable and is the most frightening sight by far. Ironically, such is the wretched disparity today that there is more fruit in a rich man’s shampoo than a poor man’s plate.

Akshaya Patra foundation, a committed non-profit organization, is striving continually to completely eradicate hunger and promote ‘education for all’ ever since its inception in the year 2000. Akshaya Patra’s remarkable feeding initiatives are noteworthy and its years of perseverance have made it an eminent name in the mid-day meal arena, supported by the Central and State Governments. Not only from the Government bodies, it has received assistance from numerous philanthropic, public sector and private sector organizations, volunteer groups and individuals.

Apart from its primary objective of facilitating mid-day meals to children to cater an unhindered education, Akshaya Patra also participates actively in the following drives:

  • Food provisions at Anganwadi centres across many locations in the country
  • Feeding expecting and lactating mothers
  • Providing food for old-age home inmates
  • Food Provisions for children in special schools
  • Feeding Runaway children
  • Food provisions for the homeless
  • Arranging subsidized lunch for the economically weaker segment
  • Providing food as a disaster relief measure for the survivors

Akshaya Patra is spread to 24 locations including remote villages in Baran, Rajasthan and Nayagarh, Odisha; serving over 1.4 million children from 10,770 schools across the nation.

Akshaya Patra also facilitated set up of a centralised kitchen in Nepal with Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha (SSS) and the Jamsetji Tata Trust, for the people displaced by earthquake.

Akshaya Patra’s feeding crusades are not restricted to these rather theyshare an aggressive presence at varied relief camps for natural calamity disasters or during a critical hour of distress such as floods, famine in the country. Its swift and instant help extended in almost every possible situation acts as a vital saving resort for many. During its one and half decade long tenure serving the cause, Akshaya Patra has been universally acclaimed with overwhelming reviews from some of the notable celebs like President Obama himself. It truly is an epitome of facilitating ultimate survival for thousands.
