Into the ocean

The study of Ecology:

The study of animals and how they react to things in their environment, also on how they interact with other animals.

the bat star

I saw the Bat Starfish on the field trip to the Tennessee Aquarium. This kind of starfish usual fight when they meet.  They will sit or lay on top of each other.

How long?

about 10 ft wide.

What colors?

green , purple, red , orange,  yellow, and brown

colors :

These animals thrive because they can easily reproduce and they can blend into their surroundings which helps their survival chances.

individual: just one

population: more than one of the same animal

Community: different kinds of animals that live together in a habitat

Ecosystem:where living and nonliving things exist together

The bat starfish's' habitat is underwater and they tend to live on rocks and on the ocean floor. They are also seen in coral reefs living on the rocks.

oceans ecosystem
*biotic & abiotic*

When I went to the aquarium I could see the oceans ecosystem. You can see who was the top predator and who was the prey. All animals had distinct color markings, like how the ocean fish had bright stripes and the lake fish had gray, plain colors. This also helps with camouflage.

depending on each other

Biotic things depend on abiotic all the time, like how an ant would use a rock to build its home, and how the sunlight feeds the underwater plants and feeds the fish.

turtle: animal   coral: plant    green fungi :fungi    protista: top right of the ocean

The plants are multicelluar, adutotrophs and are complx cells. Animals are multicelluar and heteratroph.Fungi are multicelluar but are unable to make their own food. Protista are unicelluar and are complex cells.

food chain

The shark is a consumer, also a autotroph.

Autotroph : it makes its own food

Heterotroph: get's it's own food from another source

Producer: makes something

Consumer: takes away something like eating

Decomposer: gets rid of waste.

commensalism: where one animal is affected good or bad like how the barnacles live on the turtle.

mutualism: they both benefit each other, no one gets hurt like a clown fish in the anemone

parasitism: when one hurts the other like a  when a fish has parasites inside it

abiotic factors

1. shells. shells are abiotic because it doesn't reproduce, but it will home some of the biotic animals in the ocean

2. coral. coral is abiotic because it is made out of small animal skeleton's. and some small animals would use it for protection

3. rocks. rocks are abiotic because they don't have any cells and can not reproduce, some animals would use rocks for their shelter.
