American Art:
A visual look at the history of
the United States

Art is a great way to not only see what the world looked like in the past but also to learn about how people have lived. By studying paintings, maps, buildings, and other artifacts, we can gain a deeper understanding of life and culture in a specific place at a specific time.

We are going to study the following pieces of American Art in class. As we take a look at each, think about the following questions:

- When was it created?

- What else was going on in the country/world at the time?

- What is the artist trying to tell me about life in America?
