TECH Tools for Campus Administrators

Your job keeps you so busy that there just aren't enough hours in the day.  Try out some of these tech tools to help make your day run smoother and more efficiently!


Canva is a design service that takes the friction out of designing. All you have to do is choose one of MANY available templates or start from a custom-sized blank canvas. You then use the Layouts and Background tabs to get a rough idea of what you want to design. These tabs are chock-full of options to choose from, whether you want a complete template or just a nice background to build on. You can build a professional looking flyer in minutes!


Diigo is a social bookmarking website which allows signed-up users to bookmark and tag web-pages. Additionally, it allows users to highlight any part of a webpage and attach sticky notes to specific highlights or to a whole page.

Uses: Annotation tools when reading articles, bookmarking articles, sharing of websites and articles with anyone, keep research articles in one place that is accessible from any device.  


Classroom is designed to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.

Students can keep track of what's due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom.

Created for students but would be GREAT for Professional Development.  Use for flipped instruction for teachers to access on demand.  


Kahoot! is a classroom response system which creates an engaging learning space, through a game-based format.  Create and play quizzes, discussions or even surveys (which we call Kahoots) using any device with a web browser… including a laptop, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, Chromebook, Windows Phone or PC and more! Points are given for correct answers and for speed.  Kids and adults LOVE this system!

Uses: Staff development and classroom use


Nuzzel takes all of your social media accounts and gathers the best news stories shared by your friends on FB and Twitter without being overwhelmed or missing anything.  


Remind is a notification service app. It's like texting without having to have someone's phone number or them having to have yours.

STAFF Uses: To ask questions {what's one awesome thing that happened today}, to shout out about someone doing something great, in case of emergecy {lock down, jeans day, etc.}, quote of the day, etc.  

PARENT Uses: Notifications of holidays, early dismissal, etc.

Benefits: Users decide if they receive email or text notifications.  You can send to either a single person, small group {teams or departments}, or large group. Can embed on a website.


Smore is a service for quickly creating great-looking webpages that looks like a flyer. It's super simple and allows you to add pictures, videos, and links in just a few quick steps.

Uses: Staff communication, newsletters to share, staff to communicate as a class and a team with parents.  

Benefits: Lots of templates, drag and drop, can embed on a website or simply share the link.


Storify is a social network service that lets the user create stories or timelines using social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Uses: Collect and organize information from social media in one place for staff development.


Tackk is a simple way to create and share pages on the web and have others collaborate on them.  Tons of great templates to get you started.  

Uses: class assignment, presentation, lesson plan, book reports, writing and essay, field trips, school newsletters.

Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called "tweets".

Uses: Personal learning community {PLC}, school communication tools {share what is happening at your campus}, staff PLC example, staff to share with the world what is going on inside their classroom, to stay connected to other educators.


Voxer is a walkie-talkie type app. Great because you already have your phone with you- no need to worry about recharging the walkie talkie. You can add groups and send photos or just text. It also shows when someone reads the message!  

Uses: Teachers can use for calling the office, admins can use to contact each other, immediate way to get attention.


Zite takes articles and web content and puts them all in one place for you to read later.  You choose topics you are interested in and it curates info and articles for you.
