Ammar Charani - Co-Founder of Suntrough Energy
Entrepreneur Ammar Charani has acquired a wealth of experience in the alternative and renewable energy sectors. In 2008, he co-founded the US-based Suntrough Energy, a solar technology development company that also focuses on certain aspects of project development and execution. As a founder and organizational leader with Suntrough, Ammar Charani helped the company develop its business model of creating clean, cost-effective, solar thermal power based on parabolic trough technology between 10 MW and 50 MW.
The Suntrough Energy power plants generate round-the-clock power, most notably with “hybridization” from fuel sources such as biomass, oil, and natural gas. Drawing on his background as a renewable energy entrepreneur in developing markets, Ammar Charani ensured that every 10 MW Suntrough CSP plant could provide significant benefits to local communities throughout the world. In addition to generating electricity from the most abundant and renewable energy source on the planet, each plant can provide as much as 500,000 gallons of drinking water from brackish water or seawater every day.
Aside from his work with Suntrough Energy, Ammar Charani has worked for nearly a decade as the chairman of Arxiel Ventures, where he oversees a number of global companies involved in the renewable and alternative energy sectors. He holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida. In recent years, Ammar Charani completed the prestigious executive education program at Harvard Business School. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, boating, watching soccer, and pursuing philanthropic activities.
