1. A prefix is a beginning of a word, plus different meaning.

2. A  suffix is a end of a word like ing, and ion. Plus create a different meaning.

3. A root combines with a word that make a new definition to the word like Aqua.

The root of a word holds the main meaning. For example, in the word transportation, trans is the prefix meaning across; port is the root meaning carry; and tion is the suffix meaning it's a noun (something that carries across).
