In the 1870s Guatemala's economy grew a lot because of coffee.

Maya people where pushed off their land to make room for coffee plantations in the 1870s.

Hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans died in a 36-year civil war.

A new president named Alvaro Arzu was elected in 1996, Alvaro Arzu signed a agreement of peace with the Rebels to stop the 36 year civil war.

In 1986 a new constitution is established with three parts of the Guatemalan government.

In Guatemala a president is only a president for one term (4 years).
