Ecology scrapbook

Ecology is the study of organisms like plants and animals

This is a zebra, they are very social animals that like to make big groups called herds and they are usually 30 in one herd. They live in grasslands in Africa. They like to be near water so they have something to drink and survive. In the open the live for about 20 to 30 years and in a zoo 40. The biggest threat to them is their habit being farmed and ranched. This limits food so they respond with a increased competition  for food.  A indevidual is just one. A population is like a herd of them.

Sunflower: plantae
mushroom: fungi
penguins: animal
stk700766h: Protista
Protista: large group, eukaryotic, also called ciliate
Animalia: eukaryotic, multicellular, goes through body plan as they develop.
Plantae: Also called green plant, multicellular there are million kinds of plants.
Fungi:  eukaryotic,  includes molds and yeast, they have been used as food.

Community: A big group of different organisms that interact with each other in some way

Ecosystem: A group of interacting organisms

Biotic organisms depend on abiotic for food and sometimes protection

Abiotic organisms can give protection like a clown fish in a sea amenities

The falcon is heterotroph because it finds food and does not make it.  And it a consumer because it does not make any food but finds and eats it.

Consumer: A organism that eats other organisms.

Producer:  A organism that makes its own food

Decomposer:  Something that feeds off of dead organisms

Water can hold things like a sea amenities and fish but is not alive.
This is a cave it can hold living things like bats but is not living.
Soil can hold living things but is not living.

Abiotic factors can be used by biotic organisms as food or shelter.
