Art Gurwitz - Philanthropist and Proskauer Rose COO
Notable for his professional as well as philanthropic record, Proskauer Rose LLP Chief Operating Officer Art Gurwitz takes part in global humanitarian initiatives as a member of the Concern Worldwide U.S. Board of Directors, an international relief organization with a focus on developing nations that provides essential services to people and communities in need, emphasizing sustainable solutions to serious problems. Art Gurwitz is Vice Chair of the group’s Seeds of Hope Annual Award Dinner, takes part in its luncheon committee, and traveled to Haiti in the wake of the disastrous 2010 earthquake. Closer to home, Arthur Gurwitz maintains affiliation with the Partnership for New York City, which promotes economic development for the city, its institutions and its communities.
The COO of Proskauer since 2005, Arthur Gurwitz brought a wealth of experience in legal administration to his role, having held top executive positions at some of the world’s preeminent law firms. Before coming to Proskauer, Art Gurwitz served as Executive Director of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, Executive Director of Dewey Ballantine LLP, and Chief Financial Officer of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. He recently synthesized some of his knowledge and experiences in the legal arena in The Chief Operating Officer: Managing a Law Firm in Challenging Times, a book published by LegalWorks, an imprint of Thomson Reuters, in 2012. In addition, Art Gurwitz has spoken at West LegalEdcenter’s CFO/CIO/COO and COO & CFO Forums and formerly served as head of the International Executive Directors Forum. He lives and works in the New York area, and is on the Board of the Educational Alliance, a 125-year-old organization serving 50,000 people annually in downtown New York City focusing on preschool, afterschool, college prep and adult groups.
