The college I have chosen is the University of Iowa. The UOI is located in Iowa City, Iowa, with an enrollment of around 31,000 and a 78% acceptance rate. Iowa also offers over 5,000 courses every year and there are more females at the school than males which is good in my case! ;) On an even greater note, Iowa just built a facility they call the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center! This is a workout facility with a lazy river, weight room, cardio floor and the second biggest rock climbing wall of a college in the US. Of course, this is were I will be spending most of my time. A picture of the CRWC is below, and a link to it above.
Words to Live by:
My words I live by are, "Today I'll do what others wont, so tomorrow I can do what others can't". I could never find who said this, I just found it one day. I believe this quote really describes me and how great my work ethic is. I know what hard work is and sometimes it's hard to go to the gym to lift, but you have to think about the future and what is in store for you. Always live in the future, never the past.
My Role Models:
Honestly I have a lot of role models in my life. My father, my grandpa, Steve Cook (A professional IFBB pro), but in all honesty I think that my cousin is my biggest role model. Zach is the person I look up most to. I do not have a brother so he fills the shoes of the brother figure. He is the one.
Zach is my older cousin, currently playing baseball at black hawk college. Zach has always been a good kid. He was never one to go out and drink or smoke and that's why I look up to him so much. Peer pressure is so hard in High School and being able to say no is a big deal and highly respectable. Instead of doing these things he would be in the weight room. Zach is the person that introduced me to weight lifting, and that is also why I look up to him so much. Zach may be a cousin to me in life, but he is definitely a brother at heart. He always has been a good kid and always will be, that is why I look up to him so much.
For my job unit project, I actually went a scheduled a meeting with a personal trainer named Cody Lichthardt at the Geneseo Community Center. One very important thing Cody told me was, being a personal trainer isn't easy. Your paycheck is based upon how many clients you have, and also personal training is more dealing with weight loss. After learning this I changed my mind. I decided I wanted to be an athletic trainer instead which is based more upon muscle growth. A personal trainer helps people lose weight and recover from injuries more, but I want to help people build muscle so that is the field I want to go into. Having this interview with Cody made me think about what I really want to do when I grow up, so I am glad I could do it.
