    The Coastal Plains is a great place to tour and put your business. There are hundreds of different activities that you can do here!

Georgia's coastal plains climate and weather

     The climate here is very mild. There is an average of 45 inches of rainfall per year in the Coastal Plains here in Georgia.  The summers are hot and humid, and the winters are cool, and windy. The average summer temperature hovers over about 90 degrees. In the winter, the temperature can get to around 50 degrees F. In the spring, the climate ranges from low 50's to high 80's. The falls temperature ranges from low 50's to high 70's and 80's. It is very rare for the daily high  temperatures to drop lower then 32 degrees F. Hurricane season is from June to late November. Savannah is a low risk area compared to their coastal plain neighbors. It has been said that if you don't like the weather here, then wait a moment and it will change.


    Georgia's lower coastal plains, an environmental region of the Coastal Plain Province, contains some of the state's most well-known geographic features. This includes, coastal barrier islands and the Okefenokee Swamp. There are four barrier islands: St. Simons Island (which is the largest island), Sea Island (reached by St. Simons Island), Jekyll Island, and Little St. Simons island (only accessible by boat). All of these islands are located near the Golden Isles. The Golden Isles is in the city of Brunswick. Some of the fun things you can do here are explore the beaches, numerous tennis courts and golf courses, shops and restaurants, fishing, nature centers, etc.

Physical features

    The coastal plains have very rich soil, sandy soil. Here is the coastal plains, is some of the states best farm land. There are also some sand hills. Brunswick is mainly marshy land, with low poorly drained land. The city of Brunswick is very important to their economy. 27% of farmland in located in the coastal plains. Cotton, peanuts, soybeans, and corn are the main crops grown in the farmland.

     The main industries that are located here are the coastal fisheries and forest resources are engaged in processing, manufacturing, and marketing seafood and wood products. They use the main port in Savannah and Augusta. In Brunswick, there is the Headquarters the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the Golden Isles Airport.

Savannah attracts millions of people a year to the historic buildings and the birth place of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts. It is the fifth-largest city in Georgia and third-largest metropolitan area.
