Ernest Hemingway is a popular name in the writing world. He strongly influenced 20th century writing with his uniquely economical, understated writing style. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, and wrote ten novels, ten short-story collections, and five non-fiction works, some of which were published posthumously.
Some of the works he is so renowned for include For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Old Man and the Sea, and The Sun Also Rises, his first novel. Hemingway was an ambulance driver in Italy in World War I, and died by suicide in 1961.
