The goal was to end racial discrimination and segregation. Abolitionist ideas came up in the northern churches and politics beginning in the 1830s. (history.com) In the start of the 1830s to 1870s the movement had attempted emancipation of all slaves. Free African Americans in the north were active in the movement, they had worked with white abolitionists for example, William Lloyd Garrison and Wendall Phillips. (www.ushistory.org) Some abolitionist were slaves and bought their freedom ran away, became free and being to be abolitionist.
