Technology Jewelry Hack

Repurpose old remote controls and add positive thoughts for fun pins!

Materials

  • Old remote controls
  • Glue- You'll need both Elmer's and E-6000. You can sub hot glue for E6000 if you don't have it
  • Paper cutter
  • Dimensional Magic- you can buy this at craft stores in the scrapbooking section
  • Jewelry finding- this is a pin, but you could turn it in to fun earrings or necklaces
  • color print out of inspirational quotes

To make your own fun pin, begin by opening up the remote controls and removing the circuit boards. Take any other fun things you find as well. Springs, light bulbs, capacitors, whatever strikes your fancy.

Then cut the circuit boards into triangles, rectangles, and squares using a paper cutter. The big one, might be found in the teacher work room at your school. Be careful, obviously.

Coat the circuit board piece with Dimensional Magic. This is a polymer like substance that will seal the circuit board bit and make it glossy, and smooth. Let it dry for at least 24 hours. If you see a little bubble in the Dimensional Magic, use a pin to pop it before it dries and hardens.

Pick out a fun, inspirational quote from the color print out of thumbnails. I googled "inspirational quotes" and then clicked "images to get about 3 or 4 pages of fun thumbnails. Cut one out and glue it a small piece of cardboard. I use an old box since it will be on the back anyway. Add the Dimensional Magic, just like you did with the circuit board and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

After both parts are dry, use a dot of E6000 to adhere the two pieces together. Afix the pin back with E600 and allow to drive overnight.

Enjoy wearing your pin on your bag or favorite jacket!
